Exploring the EM Spectrum

As part of our study of the Electromagnetic Spectrum and wave behavior, you are required to complete the following assignment. Read through the directions prior to starting the assignment.

The Electromagnetic Spectrum & Wave Behavior

Directions: For each question listed below you will find an associated link. Click on the provided link to answer each question. Write your responses in complete sentences (unless otherwise noted). Be sure answers are written in your own words and not directly copied from the website (unless otherwise noted).

THIS ASSIGNMENT SHOULD BE SUBMITTED AS A GOOGLE DOC THROUGH THE STUDENT PORTAL.

Objectives:
·         Students will identify and compare characteristics of the EM Spectrum.
·         Students will observe and explain how light can be reflected, refracted and/or absorbed.
·         Students will recognize that light waves, sound waves, and other waves move at different speeds in different materials.

Do you know your Learning Style?

All of us learn in different ways. These different ways of learning are called Learning Styles.

Visual (using pictures, video, and printed text)
Auditory (hearing the information through a lecture or podcast)
Tactile (using hands on activities)

While most individuals prefer one method of learning over another, many individuals will use a combination of all three styles.

Do you know your learning style? Lets find out!

  • Follow the link provided below
  • Click on the button in the middle of the page that says [Answer the 20 questions]
  • After you answer the questions the results will display showing what percentage of each learning style you use. The one with the highest percentage is your main learning style.

Welcome to my Classroom!

Welcome students, parents and guardians to 7th grade science! My name is Ms. Shari Sipka. I am excited to be a part of your journey for the upcoming school year.

Just a little bit about me. My family and I relocated to Central Florida 2 years ago from Southern California. For the majority of my professional career I worked in the field of Sports Medicine as a Certified Athletic Trainer, providing care for athletic injuries. Additionally, I spent 8 years teaching science related courses at the college and university level. On my down time I love to spend time with my family, running and coaching other runners.

This year, Sipka’s Scientists will journey through Earth/Space Science, Life Science, and Physical Science. Through the use of hands-on and real-world applications we will explore how science is evident in our daily lives. The theme for the year will be “The Science Olympics”, in honor of the 2020 Olympics being held in Tokyo. As students progress through a series of “sports” (or units) they will have the opportunity to earn medals as a class and receive individual recognition for demonstrating excellence or improvement.

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing where the journey takes us!
